Earth Citizenship and Cities with Soul for “Our One Home – Earth”: Rethinking the Notion of Home

Datum: 10. decembra 2025

Ura: 15:00 CEST

Konec (ura): 17:00 CEST

This session explores the fundamental human need for home, belonging, and connection as the foundations of flourishing urban life and Earth citizenship.

It aligns with the 2025 Human Rights Day theme — “Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials” — reaffirming that dignity, safety, and trust are not abstract ideals but daily human necessities.

In a time of uncertainty and alienation, the session invites us to see human habitats as living sanctuaries where every person feels recognised, respected, and rooted. It asks how the principles of human rights can be embodied in everyday urban experience — through housing that offers safety, public spaces that invite connection, and policies that restore inclusion and dignity.

Home is understood as both physical and spiritual sanctuary — a place of protection, sacredness, and memory. Reframing citizenship as a living relationship with land, community, and planet, we envision cities and places that nurture the soul of humanity and the Earth — where loneliness gives way to belonging, exclusion to welcome, and fear to trust.

Key Questions

1. What truly makes a place home—and how can cities embody sanctuary, dignity, and belonging for all?

2. How can Earth citizenship, rooted in land and extended to the planet, become a unifying identity for human flourishing?

Expected Outcomes

• Integration of emotional climate, housing dignity, and wellbeing into safety strategies.

Practical models for Soulful Cities—policies and practices supporting belonging.

• Shared understanding of Earth citizenship as a unifying worldview for collaboration.

Catalytic connections across global networks (Home for Humanity, LCARE, Ecocivilisation, Holomovement, Unity Earth and others).
